Proposal description

In this document We present a proposal for the development of a system of websites for the educational institution KaosPilot and each one of its schools around the world, the content of this proposal doesn’t represent the totality of the final functionalities that the portal might end up having. In a coming stage and after a process of information gathering with the people in the organization responsible for the development of the website, the final characteristics of the system that are to be implemented will be determined.

KPI AND KAOSPILOT SCHOOLS’ WEBSITES

This development consists of the implementation, configuration and personalization a series of dynamic websites of high growth expectancy which will incorporate a multi-user and multi-level admin interface from which the people in charge of the administration of the websites can publish and update the content (text, images, animations etc.) of the different pages or sections. (zulma in Denmark, but each country website will have its own administrator).

More detailed modules description

Most of this pages are static, this means they contain information that doesn’t need to be constantly updated, this information will be provided by the organization and the webmaster will be responsible for keeping it updated when required. However, there are a series of applications that require a different level of interactivity and that aim at engaging the school community in the production of content, as well as making the website a meeting place for the development of ideas, job opportunities and collaborative work. Following is more detailed description of such applications.

EVENTS CALENDER APPLICATION

The events calendar will allow the user to have access to information regarding events offered by the organization or offered by other institutions and that are considered to be relevant to the kaospilot community. The information would be searchable and can be presented in different formats (lists, maps, graphics...) under different categories (e.g place, location,date, topic area…)

The website users can post activities, which will be filtered by an administrator or an editorial team and will then be published.

The main characteristics of this module are:

• It will incorporate a central database which will posses all the necessary information for the management of the activities.
• It will incorporate a search system where the visitors can search under different criteria and that will process the database calls and presentthe information requested by the visitor.

NEWS AND NEWSFLASH APPLICATION

The news and newsflash application will provide the website users with a periodical update of the news generated within the organization as well as news outside the school that are relevant or of interest for the kaospilot community.

This application will facilitate the interaction between the kaospilots their surroundings, collaborators, people interested in the organization etc.

CLASSIFIED ADDS APPLICATION - MATCHMAKER

This application will make use of a simple and friendly user interface where s/he can post short adds. The adds will be stored in a database under some predefined categories to make it possible for future users to do searches under different criteria. The adds will be published automatically and will display the adds topic, the date and the contact person and details.

JOBS MODULE

The jobs pool application will be structured in a series of categories wich will allow: - Students and alumni cv: under this category the students will create and update their personal, academic and work related information. - Job opportunities: this section will be categorized under activity, area of expertise and position in relation to the job opportunities. This will improve the accuracy of the search system.

This application will have a special module for companies to POST job offers, as well as search for Kaospilots that meet their requirements.

This area will work under a protected system with password protected levels of access to guarantee the users privacy.

FORUM APPLICATION

• A KaosPilot dedicated forum system will be developed, it will have the following characteristics:

• Easy to use user and admin. interface
• Unlimited forum creation.
• Multiple language interfaces
• Private and public forums
• Search systems
• Instant message systems.

The forums will make use of rules and moderators which will control and promote its adequate use.

BLOGS APPLICATION

Several ideas regarding blogs, it needs to be decided whether they will be part of the website or of some kind of Learning Management System in the school.

• Each student to have a blog instead of, or in addition to the reflective loogbook
• Each project to have a blog documenting it's process
• Blogs on topics that are of general interest for the school and where the school community can contribute to the creation of content.

NEWSLETTER MODULE

This application will make it posible to administrate the email addresses database to send periodical newsletters. A further development of the mailing lists we have now.

ADMIN. INTERFACE MODULES

Each application will have an interface for the management of thecontent will allow the necessary management and updates of thedatabases containing the information. This management system intends to decentralize the processes, allowing a non expert user, with the necessary access privileges, to update the content in an easy and efficient way through a graphical user interface.

The admin. interface will have levels of access and will be password protected to guarantee the protection of the information stored in the databases.

TECHNOLOGIES

The technologies required for the development of these modules and application are PHP/MySQL mainly, with potential use of other markup and programming languages such as XML, Java, JavaScript, ActionScript, HTML, etc.
