Green initiatives
Here is a list of green initiatives done at the Homebase organisations.
Nothing is too small, and nothing is too big. Some acts was done by a single person, some required more coordination.
It is intended as part three (and draft for part for) of the following proposed ruleset:
Ruleset for a green movement
- Think globally
- Act locally
- Inspire fellows at our community[1]
- Brag publicly
The idea is to do the walk before doing the talk. And to brag about it only as a side-effect, not as a main goal.
Please note, that...:
- It is not a competition - no need writing who did it
- It is not a wishlist - mention only stuff already done (no matter if it could/should be repeated or extended)
- It is not fingerpointing - mention what you did yourself, and recommend others to add their stuff too
Concrete green initiatives
I/we have excercized to...:
- Use public transportation
- Hitch-hike (in favor of public or private transportation)
- Drink tap water (not bottled water)
- Use special computers with low power consumption for servers running 24/7
- Rent computing time at providers claiming to be CO2-neutral
- Use train + ferry (in favour of flying) inside Scandinavia
- Eat locally produced food (avoiding excess transportation)
- Buying/drinking organic milk
- Using wiki for information sharing with students (instead of paper hand-outs)
- Turning off the bathroom light when nobody is in there
- Filling dishwasher completely before starting it.
