Hi friend, and thank you for your interest on my internship at Grameen Bank, Dhaka.

There are such an amount of information and experiences I would like to share with you, but I realize that you will probably not be interested in all the things I will be interested in. So for your convenience, I have made this site so that you will be able to browse around the subjects relevant for you. The purpose of this site is that you through this will be able to quickly access the information you want. If there is anything that doesn't make sense to you, or that you need more information about, please do not hesitate to contact me on corneliusmaltha@gmail.com. I will then either answer myself, or redirect you to a staff member of Grameen Bank, who will be much better suited for answering whatever inquiry you might have.

The first subject for your exploration will be an essay about the future of social businesses, and the threat these kinds of companies can pose to traditional for-profit businesses. It then goes on to explore the “Mindset” of Grameen Bank, compared to the same of a traditional bank. You may find it here, if you want to know more. It was written for my school, as an exhibition of what the different students are working with for their internship. So this is something that is already out there.

Moving on from that, I would like to present some of the different financial services Grameen Bank offers to its lenders. And I would like to start with the first thing Grameen Bank usually does when starting a new office: get deposits from the people in the local community. Find out how the structures of this is, and how the branch makes money on deposits, by clicking on deposits.

When the deposits have been made, the branch has capital to disburse to loans generating income for the recipients. How they work, the requirements for them, and the model of repayment will be described at basic loans.

Should the loaners get off course during their loan-period, in terms of lacking the money to repay the loan, a system is put in place to help them get back on their feet. For reading about this, plus a description the internal mechanisms happening in the office whenever a loan becomes overdue, click on flexible loans.

Of other services Grameen Bank provides her members are insurance a truly impressive contribution to the general safety of the members. Grameen Bank also have a number of sister organizations supporting their work to alleviate poverty. To see a list of these and what they do, please click on sisters.

The ownership structure of Grameen Bank is rather different than the one of most other large businesses. I have in the following chapter included a description of how the ownership of this Bank is formed. For more, please look at ownership.

I have also gotten input from other parties for this page. In the following, you can see the a presentation made by John Ikeda, Grameen Foundation, about the processes and hierarchy of Grameen Bank. Click on GrameenConduct to see it.

Finally, I have tried to form some sort of conclusion about what I have seen, some thoughts and reflections, and so forth. Click on conclusion to read it.
